The plan allows for an annual benefit of $1000 per person, per year. The Alternative plan offers a richer benefit. Orthodontia is not covered under the dental plans.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) The University of Oklahoma provides Basic Life Insurance and AD&D as part of the core benefits package. The life insurance is equal to 1.5 times the employee’s annual base salary, plus $20,000 in AD&D coverage. Employees may purchase Supplemental Life Insurance up to an additional 3 times their base salary (Basic and Supplemental Life not to exceed 4.5 times annual salary) or $450,000 without providing proof of insurability. Additional AD&D coverage may be purchased up to $250,000. Dependent coverage is also available.

Retirement

The University of Oklahoma offers a variety of retirement programs, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans, voluntary employee-contributed retirement savings plans, and a University plan which allows continuation of some University-related privileges at retirement. Eligibility for and qualification for retirement from these plans varies depending on factors such as age and type of employment. See the OU Retirement Plan Overview Chart for more details.

Vision Insurance

Vision coverage is an optional benefit. This benefit allows for an eye exam and lenses annually and a new pair of frames every two years. There is a $15 co-pay for an annual eye exam and a $25 material co-pay for either lenses or frames. Choose from an extensive list of optometrists.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

No one expects to become disabled, but the financial burden can be reduced by Long-Term Disability (LTD) Coverage. The University of Oklahoma provides employees the opportunity to choose between three different levels of coverage for LTD.

Short-Term Disability Insurance The Short-Term Disability Plan is an optional insurance plan offered through AFLAC. Participants in this plan who become ill or injured and are not able to work may be eligible to receive continued income.

Long-Term Care Insurance

The Long-Term Care (LTC) Plan is an optional insurance plan. It provides coverage for nursing home and community-based care (which includes home health care) in the event the employee becomes disabled and can no longer care for him or herself on a day-to-day basis.

Flexible Spending Accounts There are two types of Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), the Health Care Account and the Dependent Care Account. By signing up for a Health Care Account, you can set aside up to $5,000 annually for you or your family’s medical care related expenses. You may also sign up for up to $5,000 of Dependent Care Expenses. The money deposited in a reimbursement account is not considered taxable income and is therefore exempt from income taxes.
