Required Training

Required training at the University of Oklahoma should be completed as described below.

 

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Awareness Training
  • Online Training: www.ou.edu.outraining
  • All new and current employees (students, temporary, part-time, and full-time)
  • Complete within the first 30 days of employment
  • Complete every other year, upon notification
Standards of Conduct Review and Compliance
Annual Safety Training: OUHSC/ OU-Tulsa

  • All employees must complete annually.
  • Categories of training needed are determined by the job duties.

Annual Safety Training: Norman

  • All employees must complete annually who:
    • use chemicals or chemicals are present in the workplace
    • work with human blood, human cell lines, or other potentially infectious materials
    • work in a laboratory
  • Employees who work in a "shop environment" (electrical, carpenter, plumbing shops, etc.) should check with their supervisor to determine their safety training requirement.

HIPAA Privacy Training
  • HIPAA Online Training:http://www.ouhsc.edu/hipaa
  • Between July 1, 2009, and December 31, 2009, ALL OUHSC WORKFORCE MEMBERS (employees, students, volunteers) must take HIPAA Privacy and Security training.  This is required even if the workforce member has already taken HIPAA training in 2009. 
  • All newly hired workforce members at the locations listed below must take HIPAA Privacy and Security training within 30 days of employment.  Volunteers are required to take HIPAA Privacy and Security training before volunteering for a fourth day. Departments are encouraged to provide HIPAA training to volunteers who will provide services for fewer than four days.
  • The HIPAA Privacy and Security Training must be completed annually by all the workforce members employed at the below locations. Electronic reminders will be generated for OUHSC employees. 
  • Locations where HIPAA Privacy and Security Training is required for all workforce members:

    • OU Tulsa (HSC program employees)
    • Goddard Health Center
    • Athletic Department
    • Office of Legal Counsel
    • Internal Auditing
    • Financial Services

Foundations In Management (FIM): Norman
  • Within the first six months a newly hired, reclassified, or transferred supervisor, managerial, or administrative staff who is responsible for supervising one or more employees, is obligated to complete the FIM training program .  FIM is a thirty-two hour management training program that currently meets one day per week over a four week period during the months of February, June, and October. 
  • Classes include: leadership, OU policies and procedures, and employment law components.
  • Classes are interactive and include audiovisual, simulation, and case study designs.
