  • Insurance Information Featured In HR Newsletter - The Office of Human Resources continues its efforts to assist employees and further the university's goals through communication of important changes and new services. The latest issue of HR's "Employee Resources Focus" newsletter includes information about: Healthcare Insurance Companies for 2009, Prevention of Violence on Campus, and much more.   • Minimum Wage Update: An amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) signed into law in 2007 increases the federal minimum wage in three steps: 1. The first increase was effective July 24, 2007 and raised the minimum wage to $5.85 per hour;  2. The second increase is effective on July 24, 2008. The new minimum wage rate is $6.55 per hour;  3. On July 24, 2009, a subsequent increase to the federal minimum wage to $7.25 per hour will become effective.   • ICE Worksite Enforcement Update. Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey announced higher civil fines against employers who violate federal immigration laws.  The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will continue to step-up worksite enforcement.  Violations include knowingly employing unauthorized aliens, failure to comply with the requirements relating to I-9 forms, wrongful discrimination against job applicants or employees, and document fraud. Civil fines will increase by as much as $5,000 and may include criminal charges as well as federal asset forfeitures. Click here for more information.
  • The OU College of Dentistry, the Office of Human Resources, and Aetna are pleased to announce an agreement, effective March 1, 2008, which will allow all OU employees, retirees and dependents on the OU Dental Plan to be seen by dentists at the College of Dentistry's faculty practice facility ("OU Dentistry") at in-network rates. OU Dentistry has 35 practicing dentists, who can provide treatment in virtually all areas of dentistry. OU Dentistry is located at 1201 N.   • President Bush Signs Economic Stimulus Bill - Starting in May, the U.S. Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million individuals. The stimulus payments will go out through the late spring and summer. The vast majority of Americans who qualify for the payment will not have to do anything other than file their 2007 individual income tax return to receive their payment this year.
