New to OU?

If you’re new to the University of Oklahoma, we welcome you!

OU is a great place to work with an attractive benefits package. As a new employee, there are a few things you need to know:

  • Attend a New Employee Orientation – These workshops are very informative, offering information about the campus, the culture, OU’s history, and a comprehensive review of OU benefits. Attend OU’s New Employee Orientation.
  •  newemployee.ou.edu – This site is a great resource for all types of information for OU employees at all three campuses, Norman, HSC, and Tulsa.
The OU Retirement Planning website contains a lot of great information about planning for your retirement. Remember, if you have questions about your retirement, contact the OU Human Resources Retirement team or schedule a Fidelity One-on-One appointment. Both options are available by clicking on the buttons on the right side of the page.

OU offers two retirement savings plans. You must choose a plan within your first 30 days of employment with the university.

New Employee Retirement Checklist

  • Start saving early.
  • We recommend starting your savings with 15% of your income, but it’s a good idea to save even more. No one has ever complained about having too much money to retire.
  • Whether you decide to enroll in the Oklahoma Teachers' Retirement System or choose the 9% employer-paid defined contribution plan, you can also contribute to a voluntary retirement savings plan. Learn about OU’s retirement plans here.
  • Although 15% is the recommended amount to save for retirement, you don’t have to make it there all at once. You can start with less and work your way up. The important thing is to get started!
  • Periodically review your retirement readiness with a Fidelity representative or a private financial planner.
  • Visit Fidelity.com/Webcasts for practical conversations to help you live well financially.

How Does a New Employee Get Retirement Benefits?

You may visit Employee Self-Service using your login credentials and select the tile for OU Retirement Elections. This will allow you to make elections, provide necessary forms, and give you the ability to attach the required documents before submission. Your retirement planning options will vary depending on a couple of key factors:

  • If you are interested in participating in Option 1 or Option 2.
  • Your personal circumstances.
