Living Well in Retirement

The university wants you to have a wonderful retirement, filled with activities you love. That’s why OU provides resources and information to help you plan for the retirement of your dreams.

Insurance in Retirement

OU provides insurance for pre- and post-65 retirees. If you are benefits eligible and under 65, you can enroll in the same insurance plan that is available to all working OU employees. Post-65 retirees are also eligible for OU’s retiree insurance. You can visit the Retiree section of the OU Human Resources website: https://hr.ou.edu/Retirees.

Income in Retirement

You may have more than one income source when you retire. In addition to social security and your OU Defined Contribution Plan, you may also have investment accounts, Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement System, or some other type of income stream.

It’s important to ensure that your savings will last throughout your retirement. One way to gain information is to meet with a representative from Fidelity Investments. The University of Oklahoma provides one-on-one meetings with a Fidelity financial advisor free of charge. When you meet with a Fidelity advisor, be sure to bring all your financial information so your advisor can get a full picture of your finances; this will help them make the best recommendation for you. You can schedule an appointment with Fidelity by clicking on the button on the right side of the page.

Keeping Your Information Up-to-Date

It’s very important to make sure the university has all the most current information on you.

Here are some details you want to be sure are accurate:

  • Your Retirement Beneficiary – If something happens to you, you will want to be sure your retirement beneficiary is completed and current.
  • Wage Beneficiary – You can update this information in Self-Service; it will ensure that your wages are distributed to your loved ones.
  • You can also update your address and other personal information in Self-Service.
