D4. First Month

The first month of employment should focus on completing university and job-specific training, gaining familiarity with job functions, and contributing to departmental initiatives.

Key Activities and Checkpoints

  • Weekly Check-Ins:
    • Meet weekly to discuss progress, address challenges, and answer questions.
  • Department Overview and Goals:
    • Discuss the department’s annual initiatives and goals.
    • Confirm they’ve reviewed the department’s organizational chart and understand roles and relationships.
  • Rules, Regulations, and Expectations:
    • Ensure clarity on key department and job-specific rules, regulations, and expectations.
  • Task Assignments:
    • Assign initial tasks and projects to be completed within their first month.
  • Training and Development:
    • Enroll them and confirm the completion of the myOU Live Benefits and Retirement session.
    • Identify any additional training needs and ensure they are addressed.
  • Access and Resources:
    • Verify access to important files, calendars, systems, and tools.
    • If applicable, review their responsibility for updating and maintaining department calendars, systems, reports, etc.
  • Performance Goals:
    • Review OU’s annual performance review process and establish goals for the year.
    • Visit OU HR Evaluations for guidance.
